Set on one of Mill Valley's larger lots and just a short stroll from the heart of town, this shingle-style residence brings an East Coast sensibility to a quintessentially Northern California setting. Our clients came to us with a clear vision: a home rooted in the shingle-style tradition, with its characteristic warmth, texture, and timelessness, a departure from the more contemporary language typical of the area, and a nod to the homes they'd long admired along the New England coast.

Working within that clear stylistic direction, we nestled the three bedrooms into the roof volume, allowing the upper floor to sit beneath deep, sloping rooflines rather than standing up as a full second story. The result is a home that reads as intimate and unassuming from the street, its scale softened by dormers, cedar shingle siding, and the kind of detailing that gives shingle-style architecture its enduring charm, even as it offers a surprising amount of living space within.
