project summary:

How do you reshape an existing house that feels like it's been home for many years? We did just that on a site tucked into a winding street in the foothills of Mill Valley. The lot was small and steep and was close to neighbors. Our creative clients, both talented entrepreneurs from New York City, aided by our team (with New York Architect Gil Schafer) wanted a home imbued with a sense of memory and tradition. At the same time, they tried to maintain the rustic spirit of the original residence. The result was an enjoyable collaboration that reflected simple materials, light, space, and connection to the outdoors. We love how this house turned out relaxed but unmistakably elegant.
